Church Destroyed on 9/11 Donates Artifacts to Tribute CenterDec 07, 2007
A crucifix recovered from ground zero and a photograph of a church that once stood near the World Trade Center were presented to a Sept. 11 visitors’ center on the church’s 91st anniversary.
St. Nicholas’ Greek Orthodox Church was destroyed in the 2001 terrorist attacks. The congregation is raising money and state officials have committed to help rebuild it on the trade center site.
The congregation on Thursday gave a crucifix found at the site, a Bible and a photograph of the church just after planes hit both towers to the Tribute WTC Visitor Center. Members then held a traditional Greek Orthodox service on the spot where their church once stood.
