Jean-Georges’ Seaport Market Will Also Be Yet Another Food Hall

Jean-Georges’ Seaport Market Will Also Be Yet Another Food Hall

Mar 01, 2018

Seaport District NYC’s celebrity chef-filled new dining scene is already underway. It was previously reported that chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and his partner Phil Suarez would open a new 50,000-square-foot seafood market as part of the proposed changes in the area. Now, a representative for the pair tells Eater NY that the space will be more than just a seafood market: It will also be yet another food hall.

The new food hall will be located in the historic Tin Building next to Pier 17. According to the Seaport District official website, “the market will feature locally-sourced, organically grown products as well as authentic and accessible prepared foods and merchandise.” At this time, there are very few details about the planned project, though previously the team has mentioned offerings such as chowders, a raw, bar, and sushi.

Vongerichten and Suarez are also opening a 7,300-square-foot casual restaurant at Pier 17 that’s expected to be similar to ABC Kitchen, joined by restaurants from chefs David Chang and Andrew Carmellini.

New York City currently has at least 30 food halls and counting, and even though they aren’t always as successful as they seem, that growth shows no sign of stopping any time soon.
