WTC Memorial Launches New Web TimelineMar 03, 2011
The National September 11th Memorial and Museum has launched a new interactive timeline that recounts the World Trade Center attacks as they occurred on 9/11. The timeline, found at http://timeline.national911memorial.org, serves as a preview of an exhibit that will open inside the Memorial and Museum when it opens in September 2012. The timeline begins at 5:45 a.m. on the morning of September 11, 2011, with airport security camera images of the hijackers preparing to board their flights. It concludes with the 8:30 p.m. speech by President George W. Bush at what came to be called “Ground Zero.”
With photos, videos, quotations, and a full recounting of the day’s traumatic events posted sequentially, viewers are able to skip forward or back using the timeline slider. The site’s warning reads, “Due to the nature of events related to the Sept. 11 attacks, the timeline contains some graphic images and sensitive content. Parents may want to first review the site before sharing it with young children.”The Memorial website also includes the history of the World Trade Center and the 9/11 aftermath, as well as teaching guides, future exhibit information, and construction updates.
